How To Spend 8 Days In Cuba

Most times we are limited to how much time we take of from work and general responsibilities to go traveling.  Especially with a little one at home, I wanted to plan enough time to really experience the Cuban culture but didn’t want to spend too much time away from her.  That being said, you also want to give yourself some time to relax and recharge, and not feel like you are coming back stressed from the trip’s itinerary. After travel time, my trip ended up being about 8 days in Cuba.  I tried to get a little bit of everything, but of course you won’t be able to get everything in such a limited time.  My cousin and I kept to a certain region of the country to not spend additional time in traveling, but I would love to return one day and learn about the rest.  I am really […]

Eating Around the Bay: 8 Places We Love to Show Off

August ended up being a pretty busy month for having visitors around.  Maybe it’s just a natural reaction to the fall season when we all need to get that one last vacation in.  Having just gone on vacation last month, and having some travel plans coming up, it’s nice to take some time to just stay home.  Luckily for us, staying around the Bay always feels like a pseudo vacation when we have company. I think in the matter of one month we had about 8 visitors!  Some have never been here, some used to live here, and some haven’t been here to visit in a couple years.  Whichever the case, I was glad to have all of them around to catch up with. Whenever a visitor comes around, we try to take them out to some of our favorite places to eat or drink, so I wanted to share […]

Top 9 Picks for Summer Break Staycation in San Francisco

Summer break can be tough with a little one, they are constantly on the move and need constant engagement.  We spent some time in San Francisco this summer to get a new take on the city on the other side of the bridge. Living in Oakland, the city of San Francisco seems so close yet so far away.  The long Bay Bridge and Treasure Island separate us from the downtown area, so it seems mentally further than the 15-20 minutes that it usually takes to get there from here. Staycations are a way we can experience a little break from the normal day activities and feel like you are experiencing something new. We spent the days wandering around and exploring some nooks and crannies that we had never been to before. Since we were walking around the city, we got to see a lot more than what we would normally […]

Still Playing Catch Up With Summer Break Part 2

So I’m currently out enjoying a little bit of a vacation in Seattle, and I feel can’t completely feel like I’m on vacation with other work just backing up.  I thought it would be a great opportunity to share another photo post of some fun things that happened last month. With Evie on summer break, we have been spending a lot of time hanging out.  Basically, I’ve been trying to find things to keep a little 4-year old active and burn off some of that unlimited energy that she has. It all has been both fun and exhausting, but we are also lucky enough to have some friends close by to help in the task.  Evie has made some really close friends in her 4 years of life both in kids and adults, and they have been so great in sharing some of the exhaustion with me. As I just […]

Still Playing Catch Up With Summer Break

So I know my little hiatus put me behind with all the things I wanted to share.  I’m preparing a couple of posts that are mostly just photos as I still haven’t really caught up with everything I need to catch up with yet. There’s still a lot to share from the month of June.  Evie is still on summer break and we are still out and about doing different things together.  I definitely am starting to feel the weight of dropping work hours down for the summer, but I am also really glad to still be able to share this time with her. She has grown so much in four years and her interests are so varied.  I’m forever entertained by her curiosity and wonder, but also exhausted by her energy. I digress, there’s lots to recap in this post so let’s just dive right in: Shy girl at […]

Finding Some Goodies at the Alameda Antique Fair

As I’m mostly packed and ready to embark on my trip to Thailand tomorrow, I wanted to write a post now about things I did today and schedule it for the day that I return.  I may have jet lag and be too tired to write, or I may just be wanting to spend the day hugging and kissing my Evie, but better to be prepared, right? Today was my attempt to have a “lazy Sunday” and relax with the family before the trip.  After a night of working a personal history project, I called it a night and went to bed around 4 am. My daughter was already there with my husband and I got to snuggle with her to fall asleep.  Early in the morning, she woke me up to talk about something, I engaged for a bit, but fell back asleep and woke up a couple hours […]
